Kawai BS-20 Reconditioned Black Gloss Upright Piano (1988)
 
A beautifully built Japanese upright with a rich, powerful tone and a highly responsive touch. Kawai is Japan’s second-largest piano maker after Yamaha, and while both brands are exceptional, many players are drawn to Kawai for its slightly warmer, more expressive sound.
 
The BS-20 stands taller than the ever popular Yamaha U1, and the added height means longer bass strings and a larger soundboard, delivering deeper bass and greater overall resonance.

Tone and tuning
 
Lovely rich and warm tone, with a little pleasant brightness and a large dynamic range - plenty of power for fortissimo passages! Excellent full bass for an upright piano and the treble is clear and bell like. Tuned to concert pitch (A=440).
 
 
Keyboard and action
 
The full 88 note keyboard is in perfect condition. The Kawai action is superb, with fast repetition and has been reconditioned (with many new parts) then carefully regulated to play evenly across the whole keyboard, with a medium weight.
 
 
Hammers and strings
 
The hammer felts have been refaced and the strings are also in excellent condition (see photos). 
 
 
Sound board
 
As new condition, no cracks or splits. This piano has a double frame around the soundboard for added tonal depth and stability. 
 
 
Case
 
Very smart black gloss case in superb condition throughout. Looks stunning and will complement most styles of decor. Matching adjustable stool included in the sale.
