Kawai BS-20 ‘Special’ Black Gloss Upright Piano (1990)
 
This is a skilfully designed and built Japanese upright with a rich, powerful tone and a highly responsive touch. Kawai is Japan’s second-largest piano maker after Yamaha, and while both brands renowned for making robust and high quality instruments, many players are now drawn to Kawai for its slightly warmer, more expressive sound.
The BS-20 stands a little taller than the ever popular Yamaha U1, and the added height means longer bass strings and a larger soundboard, delivering deeper bass and greater overall resonance. This ‘Special’ model includes some slight upgrades from the very highly regarded standard BS-20 model, such as fully underfelted hammers and some extra cabinet details. 
This is a really versatile instrument that will suit everyone from beginners to advanced players, and it’s an excellent choice for anyone ready to invest in a piano that will genuinely support their progress for many years to come.

Price includes ground floor delivery within 150 miles, matching adjustable stool and 5 years warranty. £75 delivery for most of the rest of England & Wales (ground floor). £25 additional fee for London deliveries.
 
Tone and tuning
 
Lovely rich and warm tone, with a little pleasant brightness and a large dynamic range - plenty of power for fortissimo passages! Excellent full bass for an upright piano and the treble is clear and bell like. Tuned to concert pitch (A=440).
 
Keyboard and action
 
The full 88 note keyboard is in excellent condition. The Kawai action is a joy to play, with fast repetition and has been carefully regulated to play evenly across the whole keyboard, with a medium weight.
 
Hammers and strings
 
The hammer felts have been lightly refaced and the strings are also in excellent condition (see photos).
 
Sound board
 
As new condition, no cracks or splits. This piano has a double frame around the soundboard for added tonal depth and stability. 
 
Case
 
Very smart black gloss case in excellent condition throughout. Looks stunning and will complement most styles of decor. Matching adjustable stool included in the sale.
