A very good quality British made upright from Welmar, a name long held in high regard by professional musicians and piano teachers. Welmar originally represented Blüthner in the UK and later produced pianos in London heavily influenced by Blüthner designs and craftsmanship.
 
This lovely 120cm model, made in 1976, has a rich, warm and characterful tone, with a responsive, rewarding touch. The Blüthner influence can certainly be heard – a beautifully made traditional British piano with considerably more character than many modern equivalents.
 
Carefully prepared in our workshop and presented in a very attractive mahogany case, this is a serious piano for players of all levels and represents excellent value for money.

Tone and tuning
 
Lovely rich and warm tone, with a little pleasant brightness and a large dynamic range. A deep and resonant bass for an upright of this size and the treble is clear and bell like. Nicely balanced tone throughout the registers. Tuned to concert pitch (A=440). A mute system has been fitted to this piano, operated with a lever underneath the keyboard, allowing for very quiet practice. 
 
 
Keyboard and action
 
The full 88 note keyboard is in very good condition and the action has been carefully regulated so plays smoothly across the whole keyboard, with a light-medium weight.
 
 
Hammers and strings
 
Hammers have been refaced and have lots of fresh felt and many years of good service ahead. Strings in very good condition also (see photos).
 
 
Sound board
 
Very good condition, no cracks or splits. This piano has a double frame for added tonal depth and stability.
 
 
Case
 
Stylish traditional solid mahogany case, in very good condition all round - there are a few marks as expected for a piano of this age but it has clearly been well looked after over the years. A matching stool (with storage space for books) is included.
